SHOUT Festival

PRODUCER/PROGRAMMER (2016-2020)

From 2016-2020 I was the producer and programme for SHOUT Festival of Queer Arts and Culture, Birmingham’s annual celebration of LGBTQ+ film, performance, and visual art.

My work with the festival was concerned with:

  • supporting the artistic and professional development of queer artists in the midlands.
  • programming and delivering four annual festivals, which platformed and explored the experiences of queer communities in the Midlands and beyond.
  • providing advocacy, training, and resources for partner organisations on the needs and access requirements of queer artists, audiences, and communities.
  • Refocusing the festival’s programme towards a curated programme of produced in-house events, bringing the work of internationally renowned queer artists to Birmingham including John Waters, Split Britches, Travis Alabanza, David Hoyle, Le Gateau Chocolat, Lucy McCormick, Jinkx Monsoon, and Rachael Young.

I oversaw a 100% increase in audience attendance from 2016-2017, devised and delivered an artist development programme, diversified audiences (with growth across all measured characteristics), and oversaw the strategic development of the festival joining the Arts Council’s National Portfolio in 2018, becoming only the third queer organisation in England to achieve this.

The 2019 Festival programme can be found here.
